The all-new 2013 BMW X1 comes in a rear-wheel drive base model that has a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, while the highest trim has a six-cylinder engine.
The X1’s cabin seats five, and its standard tech features, like Bluetooth, HD Radio and a USB port, are typical of the class. Safety, performance, higher quality interior materials and technology packages are available.
Our test vehicle was equipped with all-wheel drive and a 2.0L engine. We liked the strong engine and roomy cabin, even though it’s a compact SUV. Its sedan-like dynamics, good fuel economy, great technology and BMW Connected Drive makes this a fun daily driver and weekend warrior vehicle.
The X1 models can be further outfitted with a Harman/Kardon surround-sound system with satellite radio, distance control with a rearview camera to aid with parking, and a collision-warning system. The M Sport package offers a sport suspension, sport seats and wood or aluminum interior trim.
Our long test drive from Buffalo to New York City proved that the BMW offers a smooth ride, and is easy on gasoline. The seats were comfortable and the great visibility made you feel in command of the road. The massive sunroof really gave a more open cabin feel. There was plenty of storage and a great sound system as well.
